# Levels and XP: rank up in the Xtreme Weather server

> Every message you send earns XP. Fill your level bar, level up, unlock roles, and claim rewards like custom emojis, Discord Nitro, and more.

Every message you send in the Xtreme Weather server earns you XP. As your XP accumulates, your level bar fills up and you level up — unlocking special roles and rewards along the way. Use `/level view` to see exactly where you stand, and `/leaderboard` to see how you stack up against everyone else.

<Note>
  The level system is only active in the main Xtreme Weather server. XP is not earned in other servers where Snowball is present.
</Note>

## How XP works

<Steps>
  <Step title="Chat in the server">
    Send a message in any eligible channel. You earn between 15 and 25 XP per message, with a 60-second cooldown between XP gains so spamming doesn't help.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Earn XP and fill your level bar">
    Each message adds to your total XP. The amount of XP needed to reach the next level increases as you level up.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Level up">
    Once your XP crosses the threshold for the next level, Snowball levels you up automatically. A level-up announcement is posted in the server's level-up channel.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Claim your reward">
    If you crossed a reward milestone, Snowball sends you a DM with the details of what you've unlocked. Check your DMs after leveling up at a milestone level.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Your level card shows **weekly XP** — how much XP you've earned in the past 7 days. This resets every week, so it's a good way to see how active you've been recently.
</Tip>

## Viewing your level card

Use `/level view` to see your personalized level card. It shows:

* Your current **level**
* Your total **XP** and how much XP you need to reach the next level
* Your **weekly XP** earned in the past 7 days
* Your **server rank** — your position relative to everyone else in the server

To check another member's level card, pass their username to the optional `user` option:

```
/level view user:@username
```

If you leave out `user`, Snowball shows your own card.

## Viewing the leaderboard

Use `/leaderboard` to open the server leaderboard. By default it shows the Snowflake economy rankings, but you can switch to the **Levels** view using the dropdown menu that appears below the leaderboard. The levels leaderboard shows each user's level and total XP, sorted from highest to lowest. Use the **Previous** and **Next** buttons to page through results, and **Jump to you** to find your own position.

## Level rewards

Reaching certain level milestones unlocks special roles and perks. You keep the role for the highest milestone you've reached. When you hit a reward milestone, Snowball sends you a DM with details and any action buttons needed to claim your reward.

| Level | Rewards                                                             |

| 5 | Send soundboards in all voice channels (excluding coverage VCs) |

## XP multipliers

XP multipliers can be applied globally or to specific channels. If a multiplier is active in a channel you're chatting in, you'll earn more XP per message there than in other channels. Multipliers at level 50 (2x) and level 100 (3x) also apply to your personal XP gain as a reward for reaching those milestones.
